Falcons goleador, Ossoala not carried away by exploits against Mali

Despite putting four goals past Mali’s goalkeeper in Nigeria’s opening game at the ongoing African Women’s Cup of Nations taking place in Cameroun, Super Falcons forward, Assisat Ossoala, has her feet firmly planted in the ground.

The Arsenal Ladies FC of England goal poacher said at a news conference after the match with Nigeria won 6-0 that she does not in any way feel different from the rest of her teammates.

“This is just the first match and our approach was not to concede in the first 20 minutes. When we went to the dressing room, we came back stronger in the second half and did better. Basically it is not about Asisat Oshoala, rather the whole Nigerian team.

“I did not come with a target in mind to win the Most Valuable Player or the top scorer, rather to make my country (Nigeria) proud”, she said.

She added that beating Mali by such a wide margin was also a way to remind other teams in Africa of Nigeria’s prowess in women’s football.
